STATEMENT OF THE CONFEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS OF ARMENIA

ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD DAY

FOR DECENT WORK

7  October , 2019

On October 7, the world trade union movement will once again celebrate World Day for Decent Work, established in 2008 on the initiative of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). On this day, unions around the world support the Decent Work Agenda, declaring that sustainable economic development in any country is impossible without decent work. The rights of workers must be the cornerstone of the country's economic and social policies. Trade unions draw the attention of governments and employers to the need to implement the principles of decent work - providing every worker with a quality workplace, fair wages, a reliable level of social protection, safe working conditions, strengthening social partnerships, providing workers with the opportunity to freely use their rights, observing universally recognized international labor norms and principles of social dialogue. Each employee should be guaranteed decent work, fair remuneration for it, which will allow him to satisfy the needs of his family, as well as safe working conditions that do not harm his health.

The fundamental principles of decent work are reflected in the Decent Work National Program, signed on May 14, 2019. between the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the International Labor Organization, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia and the Republican Union of Employers of the Republic of Armenia.

The program will help regulate labor relations, improve employment policies and strengthen the collective bargaining system through legislative reforms. This will be an additional incentive and an opportunity for further development of the system of social partnership in the country.

The Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia expresses its confidence that the National Decent Work Program will continue to be implemented together with branch  republican unions, and the implementation of its principles based on equal and constructive social dialogue, respect for human rights, and observance of international labor standards is the only right way to building a socially equitable economy.
