APPEAL

BY THE CONFEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS OF ARMENIA

IN CONNECTION WITH THE DAY OF INTERNATIONAL WORKERS’ SOLIDARITY MAY 1

May 1 holiday is traditionally celebrated by all trade unions of the world as the international day of workers' solidarity. On this day, trade unions express their determination and solidarity in the fight for social justice, peace and decent work. On May 1, like on no other day, we realize the power and significance of such important concepts as solidarity, cohesion, mutual support, honest work. And we understand that together we can solve the most difficult problems and implement the most daring ideas.

May 1 2021 is celebrated against the backdrop of an alarming situation in various parts of the world, where there is an increase in political tension and economic instability. The spread of the COVID-19 virus has had a negative impact on the labor market. The restrictions and suspension of activities have affected most of the world's population. The economic and social impact of life interruption and lack of livelihoods has devastated the world of work, and particularly hit low-paid, vulnerable workers. In Armenia, the situation was aggravated by the war in Artsakh, which caused enormous damage to the country. The Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia expresses the hope that by making efforts, the working people of the country will be able to overcome the dire economic and psychological consequences of the war and the pandemic.

On the occasion of the International Day of Workers' Solidarity the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia states that full employment with decent work for all, healthy and safe conditions, formalization of informal employment should be the goal of the trade union movement at the present stage to restore an inclusive and sustainable future.

President
Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia
Eduard Tumasyan
